Privacy Policy
App: Chatup · Last updated: July 24, 2026
Chatup (“we”, “us”, the “app”) is a messaging app that lets people chat, call, and share moments.
This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. By using Chatup you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
- Account info — when you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address (and your profile photo, from Google). With Sign in with Apple you may choose to hide your email, in which case we receive Apple’s private-relay address instead.
- Profile you create — display name, bio, school (optional), profile picture, and your friend code.
- Content you send — messages, photos, voice messages, Yaps (stories), and hearts you send to others. Voice and video calls are transmitted in real time and are not recorded or stored.
- Usage & device data — basic technical data (e.g., last-active time for the online indicator) needed to run the service.
2. How we use your information
- To provide the core service: sending and receiving messages, calls, and Yaps.
- To show your profile and online status to people you chat with.
- To keep the community safe (handling reports, blocks, and moderation).
- To send in-app notifications about new messages.
3. Who can see your data
- Your private chats and calls are visible only to the participants. They are protected by server-side security rules — other users cannot read them.
- Your profile (name, photo) and public content (Yaps, community posts, heart counts) are visible to other signed-in users.
- We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
- A limited administrator account may access data only for safety, moderation, and legal compliance.
4. Data storage & security
Data is stored using Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore, Authentication & Storage) on Google’s secure infrastructure.
Access is controlled by security rules so that only you and the people you talk to can read your private content.
Connections use HTTPS encryption.
Third-party services. When you use automatic translation, the message text is sent to Google’s public translation service to translate it. When you search for a GIF, your search text is sent to Giphy to return results. These providers process that text only to deliver the feature — Chatup does not sell your data or use it for advertising.
5. Your choices & rights
- Edit your profile any time in the app.
- Block or report other users from their profile.
- Delete your account in the app (Profile → account deletion). Your account is scheduled for permanent deletion after a 30-day grace period, after which your profile, Yaps, hearts, and notifications are removed.
- Turn off notifications in Settings.
6. Children
Chatup is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information,
please contact us and we will remove it.
7. Data retention
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, your data is removed
after the 30-day grace period described above.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
